Story of Durga Puja
Durga Puja is one of the most significant festivals celebrated in India, especially in West Bengal. It is a time of vibrant traditions, cultural richness and a sense of community.
Fabindia, a brand known for its commitment to celebrating India’s rich heritage, is excited to present a unique and culturally resonant packaging concept for sarees worn during Durga puja. The five different packaging designs portray the five main days of Durga Puja. We have aimed to create a packaging that not only protects and presents the saree beautifully but also enhances the festive experience.
The following is a group project in which we designed the packaging of traditional Bengali saree (Indian attire), to be worn during the festival of Durga Puja. The respective brand for this design project is 'Fabindia'.
Word Search
We poured out all the words that came to your mind about Durga Puja- the festival of my hometown. We decided to take inspiration from Bengal's Kalighat painting style.
Messy ideas on paper:
Exploring the Form
Sarees are usually packed in rectangular boxes. However, we came up with a new design idea in which the box would be cylindrical in form with flaps for opening. We also added a surprise element in the box- as you open the box, 'shiuli flowers' will glide out of the box and a warm greeting of the season would be given to the user. Then it would be opened again to retrieve the saree. Thus it would have a double layered opening.
3D models
3D mockups are essential for displaying our product and creating digital mockups. It also helped us to study, understand and design every small detail of our product structure.
